Persons Unknown – DVD Release Delayed of The Complete 1st Season
A week ago we had the scoop on package art for Fox Home Entertainment’s upcoming DVD release of Persons Unknown – The Complete 1st Season. When we originally reported on this item, we passed along a release date of August 17th. In our follow-up last week, we mentioned that this was still the official date, but that Amazon.com was instead showing August 31st. We pointed out that the current run of episodes is scheduled to air through the first weekend of September, which could be a reason for Fox to move the street date on this title. Today we’ve been informed by industry sources that the schedule has indeed moved, this time to September 7th. Amazon.com is also now showing that date (see button link below), as are other sites such as VideoETA (a site produced by Ingram Entertainment, who is a wholesale distributor of home video releases). While Fox hasn’t officially announced the title yet, we’re confident enough to pass this new date along to our readers…make your plans accordingly!
Persons Unknown – Episode 1.09 – Static
CHAOS ENSUES – After returning to town, Joe’s troubles worsen as he suffers from frightening side effects caused by his “reeducation.” The rest of the group is left wondering whether they would simply be better off without him. Concerned by the chaotic mess the town has become, the Director of “The Program” sends a surprising new night manager and second-in-command, Liam Ulrich (Alan Smyth) to restore order. Meanwhile, Renbe (Gerald Kyd) and Kat (Lola Glaudini) get raided by local South American police, which ends in Renbe’s arrest. Also starring Jason Wiles, Daisy Betts, Alan Ruck, Sean O’Bryan, Tina Holmes, Chadwick Boseman and Kandyse McClure.

Persons Unknown – Package Art Shows Up, Along with Some Street Date Strangeness
Back in early June we broke the news that Persons Unknown, NBC’s summer drama, was being planned for a DVD release from Fox Home Entertainment. No package art was available at the time, but today one of our industry contacts forwarded the below image to us, having gotten it from the password-protected Fox retailer site. We asked our retail friends if the schedule there still showed the originally-announced August 17th street date for this 4-disc set, and they confirmed that it does.
We’re not certain if that date is going to hold up, though, because this 13-episode production is currently projected to air on NBC through early September! Also, Amazon’s pre-order listing (see button link below) shows August 31st as the ship date, which is closer to the broadcast of the series finale…but it’s still very strange that it would precede it! Stay tuned and we’ll update you if we hear of any formal changes to the DVD street date. Also of interest is the fact that the DVD clearly shows a formal home video title of “Persons Unknown – The Complete 1st Season“; gee, we thought it was a one-season story! Despite NBC moving the airings from Mondays to Saturdays, perhaps it’s been successful enough to warrant a second run? We’ll see! Our thanks to our contacts “in the biz” for all of their help, on this and every other story we bring you.
